From the article: Cranberry Cooking Tips
Cranberry sauce is a staple side dish for Thanksgiving, but what style? I've found baby boomers tend to prefer jellied, right out of the can, and sliced into rounds. It's fast, easy, and convenient. Yet many turn up their noses at that canned stuff, preferring home-made or at least the canned whole berry cranberry sauce, which has some texture. With fresh and frozen cranberries readily available, it is easy to make your own. What is your favorite style of cranberry sauce? Do you have a simple homemade cranberry sauce recipe?
Fresh Relish
- It's gotta be fresh ground relish. A bag of cranberries, a cored apple and an orange (rind and all). Put this in the food processor and then add 1/2 c sugar. It looks like throw up (at least I thought so as a kid and wouldn't go near the stuff), but it is wonderful. I always hated the stuff in the can growing up.

Cranberry Sauce
- Make my own and use Splenda. 100 calories per small serving for canned. Either kind is fine--canned.

Home made
- I never made it before, but last year my granddaughter and I tried it. We followed the directions on the bag of cranberries and were amazed how easy it was. It was delicious.

Definitely canned
- It has to be the canned jelly in my house. That's what Gran served and that's what Mom served. And none of the stuff with the berry pieces in it. Mom got the one with berries in it one year and everyone complained thru the entire Thanksgiving meal!

I like both
- I have to admit that I was raised on the canned jelly. Didn't even try the canned with whole berries until I was well into my 30s. Then I tried a friend's homemade chunky version and was hooked. Now I much prefer the chunky type, canned or homemade. It is a must-have side with stuffing.
