Basic Beer-Can Chicken
5 out of 5Try cooking it over an open camp fire!July 14, 2010

Cooking a beer can chicken over an open fire is another great and easy option for preparing this tasty recipe. Many people who camp don’t have larger grills that are needed to cook the beer can chickens. Others just prefer the taste of cooking over an open fire to cooking on a gas grill. Once you get the camp fire started, add charcoal and let the coals get hot. Next, place the chicken on a grate over the fire. The chickens will cook faster and brown very nicely if you cover them. We have experimented with various ways of covering the chickens and we have created a cover that works really well. It is reusable and easy to clean and store.

This recipe is really easy & yummy!! I did have a few problems with flare ups on my gas grill. I would suggest having a spray bottle handy just in case. I did soak my chips, but they still flared from the grease of the chicken. I also added curry, cumin, garlic, red pepper and onion powder to the rub recipe listed in this recipe. It was delicious!!

Pour half the can of beer in a cup and prop rinsed chicken on the 1/2 full beer can. Rub crisco on the whole chicken and sprinkle poultry seasoning all over and then pour the beer from the cup over the entire chicken. I made this recipe in my oven and baked at 350 for 2 hours. Chicken turns golden brown and is EXCELLENT. My favorite thing about this recipe is that it is quick and easy.

I tried it on my gas grill and used a mixture of apple juice and pineapple juice in the can. EXCELLENT juicy and delicious. Thanks to whoever out the recipe in. Also, I'm not one to cook much, but my wife was tied up workin so I tried it. She was impressed!
