What is a Jordan almond?

By Peggy Trowbridge Filippone, About.com

Question: What is a Jordan almond?

It's all a matter of size.

Answer:

What are Jordan almonds? Are they the same as regular almonds?

If you find a variety called the Jordan almond, it's not a different species, but simply a larger specimen of the almond grown in Spain where the growing conditions produce unusually large fruits.

The term Jordan almonds is also used in reference to the pastel-colored, candy-coated Jordan almonds. When preparing a recipe, be certain you know which to use.
