Exotic lychee fruit lends a touch of sweetness to this barbecue sauce. Great for meat, poultry, and seafood.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup peeled, seeded lychees, drained and finely diced (see Note)
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup white wine
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cloves garlilc, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 3 dashes hot sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder

Preparation:

Combine lychees, ketchup, white wine, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, chili powder, hot sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder in a heavy saucepan. Bring to a boil, lower heat, and simmer, stirring occasionally, about 30 minutes or until thickened.

Use lychee barbecue sauce on meat, poultry, and seafood.

Note: Lychees are also called litchis. This recipe calls for the fresh or canned lychees, not the dried lychee nuts.

Yield: about 1 cup
