Here is the finished King Cake using icing instead of colored sugar as decoration. Colored sugar may be difficult to find in some areas. Check craft stores that sell party cake supplies. Using sugar crystals will shorten your decoration time, but making the colored icing will only take an additional 10 to 15 minutes.

Note: Canned pie fillings are easily substituted for the cream cheese filling for a traditional filled coffee cake or Danish pastry ring. You may use the standard or over-sized crescent rolls.
