Salisbury Steak Recipe

Salisbury steak is actually ground beef patties smothered in rich gravy. The entree goes together quickly, all prepared on the stove-top.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) French onion soup, divided use
  • 1-1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 cup fine dry bread crumbs
  • 1 egg, fork beaten
  • Dash of salt and pepper
  • 1 Tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon mustard

Preparation:

In a bowl, combine 1/3 cup soup with ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, salt, and pepper. Shape into oval patties. In frying pan, brown patties. Drain off fat and remove patties. Keep warm.

Gradually blend flour into remaining soup, mixing until smooth. Add ketchup, water, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard, blending well. Add to frying pan and heat to boiling, stirring to loosen brown bits. Cover and cook five minutes, stirring occasionally. Add patties to gravy in pan, cover and simmer 15 minutes.

Makes 6 servings.

Per serving: 324 calories; 18 g fat (6.5 g saturated fat; 50 percent calories from fat); 14 g carbohydrates; 110 mg cholesterol; 715 mg sodium; 24 g protein; 1 g fiber.
