Our message board software constantly has new features being added. I'm pleased to announce some new options to help you personalize your reading experience and get to know others. Profiles are the newest addition. Your browser must be java-capable, and you must be logged into the message board to use the feature. Here's how they work:

Your Own Profile

  • Click on your own name on any post you make. A box will pop up with your personal information. You can insert optional information such as Name, Location, Gender, Age, Birthday, Astrological sign, Occupation, and Personal Quote on the Main section of your Profile. This information is optional and will be visible to all who click on your name. To add your information or change it at any time, click on the Change Profile Button, fill in the information, and be sure to Submit to save the changes.
  • On the top line, you will next see a tab called Personal. Click on this tab to enter more personal information such as Fashion Statement, Religion, Ethnicity, Political Stance, Sexual Preference Relationship Status, Children, and even a Personal Ad. You can also add a picture to be displayed. Again, it's all optional and not all have to be filled in. Click on Change Profile to add, delete or change information by filling in the blanks and Submit to save. When you click on Change Profile, you will see options at the top to display this information to the viewing public of your choice or not at all. This means you choose whether All Users, Only Friends, or Only Me to view this information.
  • Again on the top line, the last tab is Favorites. Click on this tab to enter some of your personal favorites such as Web Sites, Authors, Books, Magazines, Newspapers, Comic Strips, Movies, TV Shows, Actors, Type of Music, Bands/Artists, Sports, Teams, Vacation Spots, and Food. Click on Change Profile to add, edit, or delete information and Submit to save changes. Again, on this option, you choose whether All Users, Only Friends, or Only Me to view this information.

To recap, information on your Profile Main section can be viewed by all users. Information on the Personal and Favorites sections can be viewed by only those you choose. Only you have access to edit your information.

Profiles of Others

Now that you're done with your own, click on someone else's name. You will see basic information about that person, depending on what they have chosen to add and how much they choose to let the public see. The following options apply only when you click on another user's name, not your own. Along the right, you will see options to Send An Email, Add To Friends list or Ignore.

  • Send An Email
Sending an email is obvious. The system will send your email to that person, but you will not be able to see their email address until and unless they reply to you via email. This is a safety feature.
  • Add To Friends
This option ties in with who can view your own Personal Profile information as explained above. If you enabled Only Friends to view your own Personal and Favorites in your profile, then only friends that you add to your list can view the information. Click on the person's name and then Add To Friends button to add them to your list. To edit this friends list, you must again click on your own name which will then show an option to View Friends. From the View Friends screen, you will be able to keep track of friends, including email and/or delete friends from the list.
  • Ignore
This gives you the option of ignoring all posts from a particular user. If you don't like to wade through posts from a particular user, use the Ignore feature. You can remove Ignores by again clicking on your own name, and then View Friends.

Conceivably, you can ignore all users but your friends, but you will have to do them name by name. The ignored user will still be able to read your public posts, but you will not see theirs. Keep this in mind. Ignore can help cut down on the posts you have to wade through if you have the patience to set it up and maintain it.

Enjoy!
