Thanksgiving Recipes for Dummies

Planning the Thanksgiving menu

Thanksgiving Side Dishes

The turkey is the star of the show, but what about the rest of the side dishes? Stuffing can range from old-time sage bread stuffing to cornbread or rice, but how much do you need for that bird? You may like your gravy with or without giblets. Mashed potatoes can be simple or loaded with goodies like garlic, butter, sour cream, chives or all of the above.

Sweet potatoes are also popular, especially the standard sweet potato casserole with marshmallows, but do you know the difference between a sweet potato and a yam? Most home cooks wouldn't think of serving a Thanksgiving turkey without cranberry sauce, but homemade is so much better than the jellied cranberry sauce in a can. Pumpkin pie with whipped cream is the ultimate comfort food ending for the Thanksgiving family feast, and so easy to make.
