No doubt about it, the squid (also known as calamari) is an ugly creature. No wonder they use them as monsters in horror movies! Yet when prepared properly, they are a versatile ingredient to bring a touch of the ocean to your table. Squid is also quite reasonable in price, especially if you buy them whole and clean them yourself. Find out why gourmet chefs are using squid ink in famous dishes and how to harvest your own. It is quite easy to clean squid. Check out the step-by-step instructions with photos and give the kids an anatomy lesson while you're at it. Then try one of the many squid recipes.

Hi Peggy, thank you for the nice tips and the recipes, and based on what you said it seems that you have a lot of knowledge on squid. What I appreciate a lot with your recipes and tips of cooking, is that you provide information not to an audience who knows about squid but to people who don’t know how to cook really and who are learning. Sometime it is easy to cook but the cleaning of the squid is a nightmare.
But it would be so helpful to include a link to a video so as to clearly show how to do it because sometimes it is easier to look and copy than to read and do, but I really like your tips and your explanations; it is only that sometimes, pictures that which show how to start cleaning the squid or how to cut it before cooking is really nice.
Dear Cedou;
You must have missed the link to the step-by-step instructions on how to clean squid. Take a look here:

No matter how squid is prepared, I know some people that just say no to it. Personally, I find calamari as part of a delicious appetizer when I go out to eat. I never tried preparing it at home, but would be interesting to do.
