Nesco Roaster Oven Review
Monday December 5, 2005
I remember my Granny-Ma's beloved Nesco® roaster when I was growing up in the 60's, so it was with great interest that I tested this 21st century edition. She always cooked the turkey in the Nesco® and used the regular oven for all the other side dishes. Today's model is improved. Get the scoop.Photo © 2005 Nesco®, used with permission

I have a question… When using the roaster oven like a crockpot, do you have to add water to the oven before placing the insert into it?
No water necessary. You use it just as you would use a slow-cooker. However, because it is so large, I would not recommend using it as a slow-cooker for small amounts. No insert is used.
If you use the buffet insert to keep foods warm, you should add some water, at least 1-inch deep, so it acts as a steamer tray.

We bought a roaster oven tonight at a thrift store. It came with a sheet like a cookie sheet, another sheet with little holes in it. A small pan and a wire rack. It’s model 4804. How long would I put a normal chicken in it to roast and on what temp.? Thanks so much, Marianne
