Butterbeer Recipe for Harry Potter Fans

Celebrate the release of the latest Harry Potter movie with butterbeer. The Irish grandmother of a dear friend of mine used to melt butter in a pot, then pour in beer to warm it. I'm told this simple version of butter beer dates back centuries. Author J. K. Rowling does not provide a recipe for butterbeer in her wildly popular Harry Potter book series, so this version is pure speculation. Harry Potter's butterbeer contains a mild intoxicant, but this dessert beverage version is suitable for children and tasty enough to please adults as well.

Shallot Recipes and Cooking Information

Wednesday July 15, 2009

When I was much younger and obviously inexperienced in the kitchen, I thought shallots were baby red onions. They do have a hint of garlic flavor and look like large garlic cloves. Find out why shallots are the darlings of gourmet chefs and home cooks alike by trying one of the many shallot recipes, such as Lobster Ragout, Steak Diane, Roasted Garlic and Almond Spread, and more.

These smoked turkey rolls make you smile with delight when you bite into them. They are not your usual appetizer. The layers of flavor will have your guests bombarding you with questions as to what is in there. They are smoky, slightly spicy and sweet, with a savory tang from the capers and Worcestershire sauce, combined with the mellow richness of cream cheese. This ultimate finger food is gone in 60 seconds! If you are feeling lazy and do not want to bake, the filling is also excellent as a spread for crackers.

Deviled ham gets a spicy sweet kick from raspberry chipotle sauce. It makes a delightfully different appetizer as a dip or spread and goes together fast in the food processor. If you are unable to find raspberry chipotle sauce, you can make your own or simply use a mixture of raspberry jam and hot sauce.
